This Week in Weather 4/27/19-5/3/19

This week, the US saw everything from snow to rain to tornadoes. Here are the weather stats that stood out the most!

  • This winter has been the snowiest season on record for Waterloo, IA. With .7” received on Saturday, April 27, the total now stands at 60.0”.  The records go back to 1890!
  • On Saturday, April 27, Chicago, IL received 1.9” of snow, which is the latest accumulating snow since May 6, 1989!
    • On Monday, April 29, Chicago had it’s wettest day in 4 months with 1.58” of rain. Which led to this week being the wettest week on record since October 2017!
  • On Tuesday, April 30, Tulsa, OKk received 3.15” of rain, making it the 5th wettest day on record! It was also more than half of their April rainfall total.
  • On Tuesday, April 30, there was a tornado outbreak with 20 confirmed tornadoes.

  • On Wednesday, May 1, another rainfall record was set. Joplin, MO received 4.15” of rain, making it the 2nd wettest April day on record. This also breaks the old record of 3.48’ set in 1970.
  • As of Thursday, May 2, the percent of the lower 48 experiencing NO drought was at 88.88%. That’s the highest since the drought monitor began in 2000!
