Our Meteorologists Share Their Thanksgiving Traditions

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, so we asked our meteorologists about what the holiday means to them, if they have any fun traditions, and of course, what their favorite Thanksgiving food is!

What’s your favorite Thanksgiving tradition?

Eating eating and more eating! – Jessica Arnoldy, Senior Weather Producer

When growing up, it was Turkey and birthday cake! My birthday sometimes even falls on Thanksgiving day (the 27th) so it was awesome having all the relatives around to celebrate. And that birthday money came in handy for Christmas shopping. Even now, my favorite Thanksgiving tradition is just being with my family: fire in the fireplace, good food, and watching “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles” movie with John Candy and Steve Martin! – Kelly Cass, On-Camera Meteorologist

Black Friday. Years ago, my wife and I started getting up at the crack of dawn to people watch during Black Friday. Crazy, but we don’t even buy anything. We just browse and observe people. – Alex Wallace, On-Camera Meteorologist

Going to my sisters and spending it with my kids and her family. – Jim Cantore, On-Camera Meteorologist

What will you be doing on Thanksgiving Day afternoon?

My plan for this year is to try to control the amount I eat (highly unlikely I’ll be able to portion control, but a girl can dream) and watch football Thanksgiving Day afternoon. – Stephanie Abrams, On-Camera Meteorologist

After an early feast, we will usually go for a family hike/walk to help burn off those calories! – Kelly Cass

Eating until I can’t move. It’s the one day where it’s acceptable to engage in gluttony! And I’ll be watching any football games that are on. – Alex Wallace

Having family over for dinner after working here that morning. – Jessica Arnoldy

Run, eat, drink, pass out, football in that order. – Jim Cantore

What’s your favorite food to eat during Thanksgiving?

I LOVE stuffing…why do we only eat Thanksgiving food once a year?!?! – Stephanie Abrams

I try to devour both turkey legs in one sitting.  Solid. – Jim Cantore

My favorite food during Thanksgiving, other than the turkey, I love sweet potatoes, and butternut squash! Oh, and some good apple cider! – Kelly Cass

My mom’s Lasagna. There might not be anything better! – Alex Wallace

My favorite food is my grandmother’s sweet potato casserole. She passed away earlier this year so it will be particularly meaningful to eat this thanksgiving. – Jessica Arnoldy

Do you travel for Thanksgiving? If so, where do you go?

We typically don’t travel for Thanksgiving anymore. Growing up in Poughkeepsie, we always used to travel down to NYC. In fact I got engaged the night before Thanksgiving on top of the World Trade Center! – Kelly Cass

No travel. Most of my family is nearby. – Alex Wallace

We don’t normally travel as most of our immediate family is in state. – Jessica Arnoldy

Lake City, FL – Jim Cantore

I typically go to NC for Thanksgiving to visit with friends, but I have to work this year, so I’ll be staying put and celebrating with our viewers. – Stephanie Abrams

What are you thankful for this year?

I’m thankful for my family and their health and our military and first responders that keeps us a free, safe and a protected nation. – Jim Cantore

I am so thankful for my family, my kids who are doing really well in school. I am very thankful for our health and well-being. – Kelly Cass

The election is finally over! It goes on for waaaaay too long! – Alex Wallace

Thankful for my family’s health and the many blessings we’ve received this year. – Jessica Arnoldy

I’m thankful for all loving, supportive, compassionate and generous people in my life. – Stephanie Abrams
